Top Chef Host Kristen Kish Brings a National Spotlight to Michigan’s Art Coast
6 min readA fireside conversation, a waterfront tasting pavilion and a late-autumn weekend are converging in Saugatuck. The new festival is asking a bigger question than who’s on the bill: what does it take to turn a food event into a reason to visit?
A Michigan return, with a festival attached
A crisp autumn afternoon on the Kalamazoo River is the setting organizers have chosen for a new culinary weekend. From November 5 through 7, Saugatuck and neighboring Douglas will host the inaugural Art Coast Food & Wine Festival, with Kristen Kish—the chef and Top Chef host—at the center of the program.
Kish’s connection to the region is more than a booking. In the festival announcement, she said she spent summers in Saugatuck growing up and looked forward to returning to celebrate food, hospitality and community. That personal detail gives the headline act a local thread, even as her television profile is meant to draw visitors from beyond southwest Michigan.
