The State’s Decision: License Revoked
On July 7, 2026, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services officially revoked the operating license of Provo Canyon School’s Springville campus, ordering it to cease services by August 6. The decision follows months of scrutiny, including temporary restrictions imposed in May due to delayed medical care for a seriously injured teen and broader noncompliance issues dating back to 2025, such as inadequate staff-to-client ratios, failure to conduct timely background checks, and instances of unnecessary restraints and aggressive physical contact with clients .
Paris Hilton’s Emotional Response
Paris Hilton, who spent nearly a year at Provo Canyon School in the late 1990s, expressed profound relief and vindication. On social media, she wrote, “I’ve been waiting years to write this… The place that hurt me, and countless children before and after me, will no longer be allowed to operate,” calling the closure a long-held dream finally realized . In her statement to the Associated Press, she added, “For more than fifty years, children came forward with stories of abuse, neglect, and trauma. Today, the state confirmed what survivors have known all along” .
